Project Manager – PE

Blacksburg/Roanoke

My client is a growing civil engineering / land development firm and is seeking an individual with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, project management and design experience in Site Development Plans, Utilities, and Stormwater Design. Familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil 3d a plus, but daily responsibility will not require working in CAD.

The Project Manager (PM) has two distinct roles – a project-focused Project Manager and a people-focused Team Leader.

Qualifications

Education level.

- Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or related field

Deep familiarity with construction plan-set preparation and project delivery process

- Experience running multiple projects at one time
- Previous PM experience

Mechanical Engineer

Salem/Roanoke

My client is seeking a mid-senior engineer to join their Product Engineering team. This person will be involved in the development of new mechanical and electro-mechanical from concept through production. There is also an emphasis towards increasing performance and reducing costs through ongoing sustaining engineering activities. The position will interact with functions across the entire company including other product engineers, manufacturing, product management, and purchasing. This person should be a self-starter with a strong technical background and a desire for continuous learning.

Basic Qualifications:

BS Mechanical Engineering degree or related field.
7+ years product design experience.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Experience with small complex mechanisms and applications, including miniaturization and integration of electronic components, motors, actuators, and sensors into mechanical designs.
Experience with small part design/manufacture that are produced by screw machine, stamping, powdered metal, MIM, casting, and other methods.
Knowledge and application experience with plastics design or industrial design is a plus.
Position requires the ability to work in a highly focused product development team environment. Excellent communication and presentation skills to all levels of the organization are required.
SolidWorks CAD and PDM experience. CSWP or CSWE certification desired and Siemens Teamcenter PDM experience preferred. CAD admin experience is a plus.
Experience with testing methods and industry testing standards.
Experience with patent development.

Experience with lean production principles and how to apply those values in the product development process.

Embedded Engineer

Blacksburg/Roanoke

Due to continued growth, my client is seeking an Engineer to support embedded software design and development of Mil-Aero electronics products. Candidate skillset must include some of the following:

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or closely related technical field.
3 years’ design/development/test of embedded real-time control software. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Proven design experience with FPGAs and/or Microprocessor development toolsets.
Technical competency required in applied science, data acquisition, diagnostic skills, document creation, and mathematics.
Proven experience with industry standard communication protocols such as USB, CAN, RS422, RS485, SPI, I2C, UART, and others.
In-depth understanding of modern embedded software development processes including design, implementation, unit testing, continuous integration, version control with Git, etc.
Understanding of TCP/IP stacks and protocols.
Experience in using various debugging techniques including JTAG debuggers, logic/protocol analyzers, sniffers, and oscilloscopes.
Operating Systems experience, especially Real Time Operating Systems (bare metal and embedded Linux) is a plus.
Experience in Unix internals, low level driver software, communication interface software as well as GUI software is a plus.

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Blacksburg

My client is a fast growing division of a 19-Billion-dollar company that is an end-to-end solutions provider across the electric power, pipeline, industrial and communications industries. This position will be part of a team responsible for executing on major design-build projects (mostly large scale geotechnical exploration programs) throughout North America.

Some activities include: geo-hazard risk analyses on long, linear corridor-type projects, landslide and slope instability mitigation and design, foundation analyses etc. The preferred candidate will possess much of the following:

Minimum of B.S. degree in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology or related field. A M.S. degree is preferred.
Licensed Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist with an interest to obtain licensure in multiple states.
Minimum 10 years geotechnical engineering or geological engineering design experience.
Solid understanding of geotechnical engineering principals related to foundation, slope stability, and retaining structure design.
Ability to supervise and direct staff and project level staff.
Experienced with computer programs such as LPILE, GROUP, FAD Tools, SHAFT, GRLWeap, SLIDE, and MathCAD.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Highly organized.
Able to effectively coordinate technical and administrative staff in development of project deliverables.
Knowledge of design standards including IBC, FHWA, AASHTO, and ASTM preferred.
Overnight travel should be expected (approximately 10 to 20%).
